Release summary
Keep shared MCP client configuration free of Infrahub credentials by loading connection values from a local .env file at startup. Dependency constraints also ensure installations resolve a compatible FastMCP and MCP SDK combination.
Keep credentials out of MCP client configuration
Store Infrahub connection credentials in a local .env file while keeping .mcp.json safe to commit. The server reads the file when it starts and preserves values already set in the real environment.
What changed
- Load
INFRAHUB_ADDRESS,INFRAHUB_API_TOKEN,INFRAHUB_USERNAME, andINFRAHUB_PASSWORDfrom./.envby default. Other SDK andINFRAHUB_MCP_*settings are ignored. - Set
INFRAHUB_MCP_ENV_FILEto use another file, including a path beginning with~, or set it to an empty value to disable file loading. - Keep real environment variables authoritative when the same key is also present in the file.
- Continue sourcing credentials from request headers in HTTP token-passthrough and basic-passthrough modes;
.envcan still provideINFRAHUB_ADDRESS.
Bug fixes
- Install compatible FastMCP 4.x and MCP SDK 2.x versions so startup no longer fails with an
ImportErrorforMCPError. - Review generated version synchronization changes in a pull request instead of pushing them directly to
stable. When an untagged version is not associated with a merged release pull request, the release workflow now explains why it did not publish and how to prepare an authorized release.
Minor changes
Developer experience
- Updated exception handling and tool annotations for the MCP Python SDK 2.x API.
- Assemble release changelogs from news fragments in a release pull request, so the version and notes can be reviewed together before publishing.
